Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., has established himself as a powerful potential 2024 presidential candidate, with most Republican Party of Wisconsin convention members siding with the governor over other GOP contenders.

According to the poll conducted over the weekend by WisPolitics.com, DeSantis outperformed every GOP contender for the party’s presidential nomination with 38 percent of the total vote. President Trump came in a close second at 32 percent, and South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley lagged at just above 7 percent.

No other contender crossed over the 5 percent mark.

Furthermore, when asked if Trump should run for reelection, 43 percent supported another presidential bid while less than 32 percent opposed it. 22 percent were unsure.

As the 2024 election cycle approaches, DeSantis remains a prominent presidential pick showcasing his immense influence within the GOP.

Nonetheless, the governor, up for reelection in the fall, maintains a high approval rating and continues to break fundraising records.

Last month, a St. Leo University Polling Institute survey reported DeSantis’ approval rating at 58.8 percent, an increase from 56.4 percent last fall.

Despite Democrat condemnation of his Covid-19 response, DeSantis scored high in handling the pandemic.

“Governor DeSantis is benefitting from a strong economy and a lack of COVID cases in the state over the past few months,” Saint Leo University Polling Institute Director Frank Orlando said. “While he gets lots of national attention for provoking the ire of liberals on things like masking, it doesn’t seem to hurt him in Florida, and in fact continues to raise his national profile.”

The governor recently broke another fundraising record, raking in nearly $10.5 million in April. In comparison, his Democrat opponent Charlie Crist grossed $1 million in the same month.

Floridians’ overwhelming support for DeSantis is sure to bring him another term as governor.
