Chief medical advisor Dr. Anthony Fauci visited the White House press room to give Americans a final message before retiring: get vaccinated. Fauci’s final address comes as he prepares to retire from his leadership positions in December “to pursue the next chapter of” his career, RSBN previously reported.
As reported by Axios, the highly controversial director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases and head medical advisor under the Biden administration used his final brief on Tuesday to urge Americans to get their updated Covid-19 shots.
“My final message — may be the final message I give you from this podium — is that, please for your own safety, for that of your family, get your updated COVID-19 shot as soon as you’re eligible, to protect yourself, your family and your community,” Fauci said.
When asked about the most difficult moments during the Covid pandemic, Fauci pointed to people that refused to be vaccinated “for reasons that have nothing to do with public health, but have to do because of divisiveness and ideological differences,” the outlet noted.
When asked questions about investigating the origin of the virus, leading White House Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre lashed out at reporters, Fox News reported.
According to the outlet, Daily Caller White House correspondent Diana Glebova dared to ask Fauci about what he has done to investigate the origins of Covid, but Jean-Pierre reprimanded her for speaking out of turn.
“We have a process here. I’m not calling out on people who yell. And you’re being you’re being you’re being disrespectful to your colleagues, and you’re being disrespectful to our guest,” Jean-Pierre told Glebova, according to Fox News. “I will not call on you if you yell, and also you’re taking time off the clock because Dr. Fauci has to leave in a couple of minutes.”
Journalist Simon Ateba with Today Africa News defended Glebova during the press conference, saying her question was valid and should be asked.
“You need to call people across the room! She has a valid question, she’s asked about the origin of COVID,” Ateba said, per Fox.
However, Jean-Pierre retaliated, saying: “I hear your question, but we’re not doing this the way you want it. This is disrespectful …. Simon, I’m done. Simon, I’m done. I’m done with you right now. You’re taking time away from your colleagues.”
