Georgia Senate hopeful Herschel Walker slammed Democrats and the media Thursday for pushing a racial narrative ahead of the upcoming election.

“As usual, the left and the media are making everything about race,” the Heisman Trophy winner tweeted. “I’m going to win this seat because Georgians know I’m the most qualified for the job.”

The focus of Walker’s ire was an article from The Nation – “The Herschel Walker Senate Campaign is an Insult to Black People” – which he linked to in the tweet.

According to the article’s author, Elie Mystal, Republicans are backing Walker in his bid to unseat Sen. Raphael Warnock, D-Ga., because they believe “any old Black person will do.”

Describing the Georgia Bulldog as “an animated caricature of a Black person drawn by white conservatives,” Mystal argued, “There is no doubt that Walker … has been promoted by conservative forces because he is Black.”

Currently, Walker is the top candidate facing his fellow Republican challengers and Democrats in the race at large. A recent Emerson College poll showed Walker leading Warnock with likely voters 49 percent to 45 percent, with 6 percent still undecided.

The former football player has also received the coveted endorsement of President Donald Trump.

On Friday, Fox News reported that Walker’s campaign had raked in $5.5 million in the first three months of 2022 – up from the $5.4 million raised in the previous quarter.

“Herschel’s pro-business, pro-law enforcement, pro-military and pro-America message is clearly resonating with Georgians who are fed up with the status quo,” Campaign Manager Scott Paradise said, per Fox News. “We have the resources to tell Georgians why they need to fire Senator Warnock and that’s exactly what we’ll do through November.”
