Arizona Secretary of State Katie Hobbs is facing a firestorm of criticism after communications between her office and Twitter leaked online in Elon Musk’s “Twitter Files” drop.
Per the leaked files, her office allegedly contacted Twitter to request the removal of tweets on the social media platform due to “misinformation” in 2021.
“The SOS of AZ and Gov candidate, Katie Hobbs, used the power of the AZ SOS to collude w/ Twitter to unconstitutionally violate 1st Amendment rights of Americans for her own political gain,” Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., remarked on Twitter. “This is communism and Hobbs can not be governor. I’m calling for a Federal investigation.”
Secretary Hobbs also certified the 2022 midterm election results on Monday, giving herself the green light to become governor of Arizona, despite countless allegations of voting problems in counties across the state, per RSBN.
The Republican Party of Arizona on Tuesday called on Attorney General Mark Brnovich on Twitter to investigate Hobbs “over a government agency directing a private company to suppress free speech + a few other violations of State Law.”
In a letter penned to the Brnovich’s office, they stated, “Two days ago a bombshell was dropped that Arizona Secretary of State, Katie Hobbs, pressured Twitter to remove posts while she was running to become Governor of Arizona. Yesterday, the same Katie Hobbs certified her own election and crowned herself Governor following weeks of countless testimonies of voter disenfranchisement from poll workers and poll observers.”
Their letter asked Brnovich to investigate whether Hobbs potentially used state resources to coordinate with the Biden administration on using Twitter to remove content. “The allegations in this letter are based on media reporting referencing and containing images of partially redacted emails released in out of state litigation,” the letter added.
“Using a government position to interfere in an election is a felony,” the Kari Lake War Room tweeted on Monday. “Now @mtgreenee is calling for an investigation into @katiehobbs. We don’t understand why our Governor & AG aren’t worried about this. But it’s like George Carlin once said. ‘It’s a big club & we ain’t in it.’”
