House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., is receiving backlash after being caught officiating a lavish wedding for elites without wearing a mask at the crowded gathering.
Pelosi officiated the wedding at San Fransisco City Hall, which has been closed off to the general public since the beginning of the pandemic, for Ivy Love Getty, billionaire heiress to Getty Oil, and Tobias Engel. According to Vogue, all guests were asked to mask up before Pelosi, who was maskless, entered the venue.
After the ceremony, guests made their way to the Getty Mansion where the reception began. Gov. Gavin Newsom, D-Calif., and San Fransisco Mayor London Breed, D-Calif., were also in attendance.
In October, Mayor Breed relaxed mask mandates for fully vaccinated individuals, who are now no longer required to wear masks indoors unless crowds exceed 100 people. Although it is unclear exactly how many guests attended the Getty wedding, images have indicated that there were many maskless faces at the lavish ceremony which appears to host more than 100 people.
The Getty wedding is not the first occasion in which Pelosi has violated California’s Covid-19 protocols. Pelosi was slammed after hosting a maskless fundraiser for Democrats in Napa Valley in August. Pelosi and Democrat donors sat maskless at the event, while servers and staff were required to wear masks. The Speaker was also spotted maskless while hypocritically visiting a San Fransisco hair salon last year, despite her own constituents not being allowed to visit salons.
In July, the frequently maskless Pelosi ordered members of the U.S. House of Representatives, including staff and visitors, to wear masks inside the Capitol Building at all times or be arrested. Members of the House must pay $500 for each violation, and an additional $2,500 for each repeat violation. Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene has been fined $50,000 for not wearing a mask on numerous occasions, according to the Democrat House Ethics Committee.
