Quinnipiac Poll: Americans want Republicans to take back the House

Quinnipiac University Polling asked Americans whether they would want Republicans or Democrats to control the House in 2022. The results show that most of the American people want the GOP.

Quinnipiac University Polling is a trusted pollster throughout the United States, but tends to lean 0.5 to the Democrats, according to Fox News. They have also received an A- with the FiveThirtyEight data journalism publication for accuracy.

A poll published on Wednesday asked respondents, “If the election were held today, would you want to see the Republican Party or the Democratic Party win control of the United States House of Representatives?”

46 percent of respondents told the polling company they would like to see the Republican Party take back the House of Representatives, while just 43 percent would support Democrats keeping it.

This poll projecting a GOP advantage, indicates a possible political upset in the 2022 midterms.

Tim Malloy, an analyst at Quinnipiac University Polling, commented on the trend, “Though the numbers are not overwhelming, they signal a potentially ominous trend for Democrats as a plurality of voters recommend tossing out the party that controls the House.”

Quinnipiac has been conducting these polls since May. The May polls showed that Democrats were far above Republicans, having a nine-point advantage. Polls gradually began to decline for Democrat lawmakers amid a scandal-ridden Biden administration. Just last month in September, the lead was four points. Now, the polls are flipped.

The change of heart comes after a summer of missteps. The Biden administration has had a very defining first year in office thus far with rising inflation, an ongoing Afghanistan crisis, and the current border crisis all have the American people losing confidence in the government. Jobs reports have also left the American people losing hope, showing only 235,000 jobs created when the monthly average has been over 500,000.

Biden’s approval rating has plummeted in the midst of this and the Republicans are planning on using all of these things to their advantage.
