President Donald J. Trump is calling out the Department of Justice for targeting him and other conservatives with politically motivated investigations.
After news broke Tuesday that the DOJ had opened an investigation into the 45th president’s actions following the 2020 presidential election, Trump took to Truth Social on Wednesday to share his thoughts.
“People forget, this is all about a Rigged and Stolen Election,” Trump asserted. “But rather than go after the people that Rigged and Stole it, they go after the people that are seeking Honesty and Truth, and have Freedom of Speech, and many other defenses, on their side!”
The president continued, “Justice Department should look at The Crime of the Century. Evidence is massive and irrefutable!!!”
Trump also asked why the DOJ has yet to prosecute those who led the “Russia, Russia, Russia Scam” against him, noting, “Plenty of time left!”
News of the investigation into Trump followed allegations from Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, that FBI officials had deliberately mislabeled evidence against Hunter Biden as “disinformation.”
“The allegations provided to my office appear to indicate that there was a scheme in place among certain FBI officials to undermine derogatory information connected to Hunter Biden by falsely suggesting it was disinformation,” Grassley wrote Monday in a letter obtained by CBS, addressed to Attorney General Merrick Garland and FBI Director Christopher Wray.
Citing “highly credible” whistleblowers, Grassley said the FBI allegedly received information in 2020 about Hunter Biden’s “criminal financial and related activity.” It was also alleged that an assessment had been opened in August 2020 that was used by an FBI headquarters team to “improperly discredit negative Hunter Biden information as disinformation” and halt investigations into the former vice president’s son.
Grassley also noted that, a month later, the same FBI team placed their findings on whether the negative information was disinformation into a file with restricted access.
Then, when more derogatory information about Biden was unearthed in October 2020—just before the election—Grassley said that the same FBI team again was alleged to have suggested those claims were also disinformation, even though the reporting was “either verified or verifiable via criminal search warrants.”
In recent years, the FBI and DOJ have come under scrutiny for political partisanship, particularly in the age of Trump.
From the Justice Department’s prosecution of Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn to its selective prosecution of those involved in the Jan. 6 riots, some have alleged that a “two-tiered” justice system is at play that favors Democrats. And as more information continues to come to light about what exactly took place in 2020, citizens may soon receive confirmation as to whether or not that is true.
