President Donald Trump blasted Mitch McConnell Thursday for supporting the gun control legislation currently advancing in the U.S. Senate.

In a post on Truth Social, the 45th president said, “Mitch McConnell’s push for Republican Senators to vote for Gun Control will be the final straw.”

According to The Hill, the Senate voted 64 to 34 Tuesday to advance the controversial gun control legislation. The Senate has been working quickly to pass sweeping gun reform laws in the wake of the deadly shootings in Buffalo and Uvalde.

The House of Representatives passed a series of restrictive gun control laws earlier in June. However, in the Senate, a bipartisan committee has worked together to advance a bill expected to ultimately pass and deal a major blow to the Second Amendment.

RSBN previously reported that the bill’s co-sponsors, Sens. John Cornyn, Susan Collins, Lindsey Graham, and Mitt Romney, led 14 Republican senators to advance the Democrats’ gun control agenda.

The Senate’s actions provide a sharp contrast to the decision delivered Thursday by the Supreme Court that upheld the Second Amendment and expanded the rights of New York gun owners in a landmark 6 to 3 decision.

Trump warned Americans of Mitch McConnell’s compromise with Democrats, saying, “Just like he gave away the Debt Ceiling and got NOTHING in return, or handed the Dems a great sound bite and victory with the Infrastructure Bill, which is actually all about the Green New Deal, he is now forcing approval of the FIRST STEP IN TAKING AWAY YOUR GUNS!”

“Republican Senators SHOULD NOT VOTE FOR THIS CAREER ENDING BILL!!!” continued Trump.

The Second Amendment is a foundational component of the Republican Party and the America First platforms. If the 14 Republican senators who voted to advance the legislation ultimately aid the Democrat Party in passing gun control laws that limit the freedom of millions of Americans, it would mark a drastic departure from typical Republican policy.

Republican senators who support this legislation could face difficulty winning in future elections. In a previous post on Truth Social, Trump warned, “Republicans, be careful what you wish for!!!”
