Trump would get gas down to $2 a gallon in 6 months if he were in office

In an interview with Judge Jeanine Pirro on Saturday, President Trump said that if he were in office today, he could get the prices of gas down to about $2 a gallon within six months.

Discussing the rising gas and oil prices throughout the country over the past few months due to the Biden Administration’s failure to combat this economic burden on the average American family, Pirro asked, “Doesn’t he [Biden] know how to do it?”

“I don’t think he does,” President Trump replied, “because his answer was weird, ‘you can get it down a few cents’. No, you can get it down a few dollars.”

Pirro pressed him to answer, “How do you do that?”

“You have to let the oil companies go back to work,” Trump responded, “they ended leases, they ended ANWR, because of Lisa Murkowski.”

ANWR refers to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge oil drilling controversy that has plagued U.S. politics since the 1970s. Republicans have unsuccessfully attempted to get permission to drill for oil in Alaska for years, until finally doing so under the Trump administration. It was repealed under Biden this year.

“Ronald Reagan tried to get it, the Bush’s tried to get it, everybody tried to get it – I got it done.” President Trump said about the Alaska oil drilling project.

The national gas average currently is hovering around $3.40, according to AAA.

In April 2020, the average gas price was sitting around $1.74 across the country, some places even recording as low as $1. This price began to spike in February of this year, shortly after President Biden took office.
