Democrat Tulsi Gabbard, who unsuccessfully ran for the 2020 presidential nomination and served as U.S. Representative from Hawaii, tore into her own party during a Fox News interview on Wednesday, cheering Democrat losses in last Tuesday’s election and claiming the Biden Administration was “tearing our country apart.”
“I think that the American people, it’s clear as we saw in Virginia, it’s actually a positive sign that they’re rejecting the kind of divisiveness, racialization of everything in this country, the fomenting of anger and hatred, that unfortunately, we’re seeing coming from so many of my fellow Democrats,” Gabbard told Fox News Host Neil Cavuto.
“I think the Virginia governor’s election was a positive indication of voters taking a stand and letting their voices be heard through the ballot box,” Gabbard said, critiquing the party’s strong leftward shift in recent years and embrace of far-left ideology like Critical Race Theory.
Gabbard agreed with other voices in the Democrat Party, who have argued the party’s embracement of ‘woke’ ideology has made it particularly toxic and deeply unpopular with the American public. For example, Democrat strategist and longtime Clinton ally James Carville, as alluded to by Cavuto in the Gabbard interview, has been a vocal critic of the party’s messaging.
“[I]t’s actually a positive sign that they’re rejecting the kind of divisiveness, racialization of everything in this country, the fomenting of anger and hatred, that unfortunately, we’re seeing coming from so many of my fellow Democrats, and they’re standing up and saying: ‘Hey, we want to choose an optimistic future, a hopeful future, a future where we can live up to that dream of Martin Luther King judging each other by our character,” Gabbard said.
The former Hawaii representative also reacted to a poll conducted earlier this month in which nearly half of Democrat voters did not want Joe Biden to serve as the party’s presidential nominee in 2024.
“You know, I’ve considered Joe Biden a friend for many years. And I’ve been disheartened to see the direction that he’s taken in this administration, that is the undermining the fundamental principles of our country that is actually tearing our country apart, rather than working to bring us together to find our way forward and have respectful dialogue,” she continued.
Gabbard is the latest Democrat to join in on rising opposition to the Biden administration. Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., and Sen. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., have also expressed disdain for some of Biden’s legislative actions.
