An American citizen from San Diego, Calif. who is stranded in Afghanistan with his wife penned a heartbreaking letter to Joe Biden, pleading with him to help them return home.
“I am pleading with you again as a fellow proud American and as a husband to help my wife and I get home from Afghanistan,” the letter states. The letter, whose author’s identity remains hidden, was released to the White House by Rep. Darrell Issa, R-Calif.
This comes after a chaotic and badly botched U.S. military withdrawal from Afghanistan at the hands of Joe Biden and his administration.
In August, 13 U.S. troops were killed in an ISIS-K explosion in front of the Kabul airport, amidst a turbulent attempt to evacuate fleeing Afghans and American citizens. “He [Biden] ran out of Afghanistan instead of following the plan our Administration left for him – a plan that protected our people and our property, and ensured the Taliban would never dream of taking our Embassy or providing a base for new attacks against America. The withdrawal would be guided by facts on the ground,” Trump remarked in a statement following the catastrophic withdrawal.
Although the U.S. withdrew its presence from Afghanistan, reports confirm that some American citizens remain stranded. However, the White House has repeatedly denied these reports. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said, “I think it’s irresponsible to say that Americans are stranded. They are not.” Additionally, State Department (DOS) Spokesperson Ned Price recently promised Americans in a statement that “The safety and security of US government employees and U.S. citizens overseas is our top priority.”
Unfortunately, the promises of the State Department and the denial of the White House regarding the reports of stranded Americans have not done the Biden Administration any favors.
This week, the State Department admitted that nearly 400 American citizens are still stranded in Afghanistan – a truly staggering number. In the San Diego resident’s heart-wrenching letter to the White House, the author contends that he and his wife have made multiple attempts to leave the country through utilizing the aid of the DOS, but have been unable to successfully do so because of the danger of the Taliban, which has quickly assumed control of Afghanistan since the U.S. military left.
The stranded American husband continued in his letter:
“We understood early on that one issue was my wife’s immigration status — she has been waiting for her green card interview since 2019. We understand that we will have to continue the process in a third country before we can come home, and have completed all the E-visa requirements as directed by DOS. We simply do not understand why we were not called for the flight on Monday, and the DOS cannot explain it to us or to Congressman Issa.
The information we’re receiving from DOS is not consistent with what is happening. They also continue to use WhatsApp to communicate with us, which, as evidenced by the blackout last week, is not secure or a reliable means of communication. I regretfully do not know whether to trust the DOS with our life and safety or to turn to other means to escape. This is not a position I would wish on anyone, and certainly not American citizens.”
Issa had harsh words for the Biden administration in light of the letter.
In an official press statement, Issa slammed Biden: “Throughout these efforts, we have seen the worst of the Biden Administration’s disorganized and ineffective efforts to bring our people home…No American should have to beg their President to bring them home from a dangerous foreign land. And yet, that is exactly what this member of our community and so many other American citizens may feel forced to do. Shame on this White House for its betrayal of our fellow citizens.”
It remains to be seen what the fate of the nearly-400 American citizens in Afghanistan will be, but one thing seems certain: Joe Biden and his advisors don’t seem to care.
