Meta officially restored President Donald Trump’s Facebook and Instagram pages Thursday, just weeks after the company announced its decision to reinstate his accounts.
According to the New York Post, Meta spokesperson Andy Stone confirmed the company’s reinstatement of the 45th president’s accounts on Thursday.
Recently, Nick Clegg, president of global affairs at Meta, released a statement regarding the company’s decision to reinstate Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts.
“To assess whether the serious risk to public safety that existed in January 2021 has sufficiently receded, we have evaluated the current environment according to our Crisis Policy Protocol, which included looking at the conduct of the US 2022 midterm elections, and expert assessments on the current security environment,” he stated. “Our determination is that the risk has sufficiently receded, and that we should therefore adhere to the two-year timeline we set out. As such, we will be reinstating Mr. Trump’s Facebook and Instagram accounts in the coming weeks. However, we are doing so with new guardrails in place to deter repeat offenses.”
The reinstatement of Trump’s Facebook page occurred over two years after the platform removed the 45th president in the aftermath of the Jan. 6 protests in Washington, D.C.
Trump recently touted the company’s decision to reinstate him on Facebook while blasting their decision to “deplatform” a U.S. president, which he claimed resulted in a massive reduction in Meta’s value.
“FACEBOOK, which has lost Billions of Dollars in value since ‘deplatforming’ your favorite President, me, has just announced that they are reinstating my account,” he said. “Such a thing should never again happen to a sitting President, or anybody else who is not deserving of retribution!”
Although the 45th president will now have the ability to communicate with millions of Americans through his reinstatements on Facebook and Instagram, Trump has made it clear that he is committed to Truth Social and preserving Americans’ freedom of speech through a social media platform that does not censor conservative thought and opinion.
