Rep. Madison Cawthorn, R-N.C., called on Kamala Harris on Friday to invoke the 25th Amendment to remove Joe Biden from office amid his inability to handle the deadly crisis in Kabul, Afghanistan.
Cawthorn, who has sent letters to the members of Biden’s cabinet and the Vice President, released a statement explaining why Biden should be removed from office.
“Joe Biden does not simply have a pattern of poor decision making, his mental decline is on full display,” said Cawthorn. “President Biden’s physical inability to lead is not a political talking point, it is a demonstrable fact.”
“Our President is not mentally fit to serve as President of these United States. That is why today, I sent letters to each member of the President’s cabinet, and to the Vice President, asking that they invoke the 25th Amendment of United States Constitution and remove Joe Biden from his office,” Cawthorn continued.
Cawthorn called on House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., to bring Congress into session and construct a disability review council to assess Biden’s mental state.
“We must not allow this mentally unstable individual to direct our country for one second longer,” Cawthorn stated.
In the letter to Harris, Cawthorn stated she, as a member of Biden’s inner circle and a presidential primary debate opponent, would know better than anyone else about Biden’s “current cognitive limitations.”
“As the person that works closest with the president, you are also the one who best knows the differences between the perception the West Wing wants to project and the ugly reality,” he added.
Cawthorn is not the first member of Congress to call on Biden to resign. Sen. Josh Hawley, R-Mo., Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., Rep. Elise Stefanik, R-N.Y., Sen. Marsha Blackburn, R-Tenn., and Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks, R-Iowa, have also called for Biden to step down.
Even Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Mark Warner, D-Va., announced that his committee will investigate Biden’s handling of the Afghanistan pullout. Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman Jack Reed, D-R.I., has confirmed that his committee will investigate Biden too.
The Biden administration has announced that they will continue to get Americans out of Afghanistan after the Aug. 31 deadline. Experts warn that stranded Americans could likely be held hostage by the Taliban.
