As President Trump spends the next few weeks in New York for a Manhattan criminal trial spearheaded by District Attorney Alvin Bragg, the president’s legal spokeswoman, Alina Habba, expressed her thoughts about the possibility of Trump going to jail.

As reported by RSBN, Trump is under an expanded gag order in the case, and on Tuesday, DA Bragg filed a motion to hold the president in contempt of court for allegedly violating it. He also asked the judge to threaten Trump with up to 30 days of incarceration for any potential future violations.

Trump additionally faces jail time if he doesn’t show up to court at any point in the trial, which could last for six to eight weeks. It is also conceivable that upon a possible conviction in the left-leaning courts of New York, Trump could face jail time, too for any of the 34 counts that he has been charged with in the so-called “hush money” case.

Habba – who acted as the president’s attorney in the previous New York civil fraud suit led by State Attorney General Letitia James – told Fox News that the president was concerned about the possibility of jail time.

She explained, “I think, like anybody, he’s concerned about going to jail. But if they put him in jail for his First Amendment right, he will be like Nelson Mandela. I mean, that would be just absurd. And frankly, they’ll win him the election.”

Putting a president in jail would be an unprecedented move in the United States, and it could very well elevate Trump to a whole new level of political martyrdom in the eyes of the American public.

The president is currently residing in New York City in Trump Tower for the duration of the criminal trial, but he has still been finding time to campaign for the White House with every spare moment.
