According to a new poll released Monday, most Americans want the United States to increase oil and gas production as gas prices skyrocket across the country.
Rasmussen Reports revealed a report showing that 70 percent of Americans favor the United States increasing its oil and gas production. Breitbart News also reported nearly one in three Americans drove less in February, mainly due to the high cost of gas and diesel.
With gas prices skyrocketing, this problem appears likely to stretch into the summer months.
Patrick De Haan, the head of petroleum analysis for GasBuddy, said in a statement over the weekend, “As Russia’s war on Ukraine continues to evolve and we head into a season where gas prices typically increase, Americans should prepare to pay more for gas than they ever have before.”
“Shopping and paying smart at the pump will be critical well into summer,” he added.
The Biden administration began pausing drilling leases in January 2021. The pause on fossil fuel oil and gas lease sales was implemented due to Biden’s Executive Order 14008, “Tackling the Climate Crisis at Home and Abroad.”
Now, Americans blame Biden for the sharp rise in gas prices as the war in Ukraine and the sanctions against the Russian economy continue to affect the world.
Under President Trump, gas prices were affordable for most Americans, and gas prices averaged $2.16 per gallon in December 2020. Under the Biden administration, however, Americans immediately saw the cost of gas increase throughout 2021. As world events cause the price of oil and natural gas to increase, the Biden administration’s policies are beginning to take a heavy toll on Americans’ pocketbooks.
The 45th president worked to make the United States energy independent. In contrast to Trump, Biden canceled the Keystone XL pipeline project that would have increased America’s energy production. With gas prices on the rise, Americans are calling on the Biden administration to reverse his policies and increase America’s energy production once again.
Currently, the Biden administration is scrambling to acquire oil and gas from other nations as the United States considers banning Russian oil imports. However, Republican leaders have warned against buying oil and gas from other communist countries, such as Venezuela.
Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., released a statement, saying, “It is wrong for the Biden Administration to beg for oil from Venezuela & legitimize Maduro’s communist regime during an official visit.” DeSantis explained the U.S. needs to increase its domestic energy production, “So we won’t need to rely on hostile regimes for energy.”
