The Biden administration warned migrants on Wednesday not to make a push to illegally cross the southern border before President Donald Trump takes office in January.
A Customs and Border Protection (CBP) spokesperson shared a statement concerning messaging urging migrants to enter the U.S. before Jan. 20, 2025.
“Migrants should not believe the lies of smugglers,” a CBP spokesperson said. “The fact remains: the United States continues to enforce immigration law, and migrants should use safe, lawful, and orderly pathways to come to the United States.”
Trump was endorsed by the U.S. Border Patrol Union during his campaign due to his strong support to protect the border.
Paul Perez, the president of the National Border Patrol Council, shared his strong support for Trump during an Arizona rally in October.
“If we allow border czar Harris to win this election, every city, every community in this great country is going to go to hell,” Perez said. “The untold millions of people unvetted, who she has allowed into this country that are committing murders, rapes, robberies, burglaries and every other crime will continue to put our country in peril.
“Only one man can fix that. That is Donald J. Trump,” he continued. “He has always stood with the men and women who protect this border, who put their lives on the line for the country.”
The Border Patrol Union represents over 16,000 people in its membership.
Trump has repeatedly vowed to launch the largest deportation in the nation’s history. When pushed for details, his plans have focused on the deportation of migrant criminals.
The president-elect also said during an October press conference that he would seize the assets of drug cartels and gangs to create a restitution fund for victims of migrant crime.
Trump shared the policy issue during a Mar-a-Lago press conference in West Palm Beach, Florida.
“I’m announcing that for the first time under my administration, we are seizing the assets of the criminal gangs and drug cartels and we will use those assets to create a compensation fund to provide restitution for the victims of migrant crime,” he stated.
