Biden detailed a gun control proposal that that would outlaw “assault weapons” and high-capacity magazines as Democrats continue to endorse the “Defund the Police” movement.
“Talk to most responsible gun owners they’ll tell you there’s no possible justification for having 100 rounds in a magazine,” said Biden during remarks on Wednesday, reiterating his opposition to high-capacity magazines.
In response to critics who say this is a violation of Americans’ Second Amendment rights, Biden responded, “We’re not changing the Constitution. We’re enforcing hit,” he stated, shortly after meeting with law enforcement officials.
“If you willfully sell a gun to someone who’s prohibited from possessing it, if you willfully fail to run a background check, if you willfully falsify a record … my message to you is this: We’ll find you and we will seek your license to sell guns,” Biden said, threatening gun dealers.
During his speech, Biden also explained his strategy will be focused on allegedly strengthening law enforcement and background checks. This comes as mounting crime grips Democrat-run urban cities across the nation, although Biden attributes it to the pandemic. A problem he intends to address through gun control measures, despite the Democrats’ push to defund police departments throughout the country.
Pushing back on Biden’s remarks, the National Rifle Association argues the mounting crime is a result of the left’s constant push to defund the police.
“The simple fact is strict enforcement of existing laws – including gun laws – coupled with support of law enforcement and prosecutors to do their jobs would result in a dramatic decrease in crime,” explained Amy Hunter, the Director of Media Relations for the NRA, during an interview on Fox News.
Critics claim this effort will yield backlash across the country and could fuel the GOP to gain back both the House and the Senate during the 2022 election cycle.
