Biden’s poor performance during the first presidential debate has undoubtedly dominated headlines and broadcasts since he and Trump exited the stage, with many media personalities calling for him to bow out of the race.

The candidates’ policies have received less attention, but one particular comment from Biden sparked instant criticism. When discussing the effects of the heated economy on black families, moderator Dana Bash asked Biden, “What do you say to black voters who are disappointed with the progress so far?”

Biden responded, stating, “I say I don’t blame them for being disappointed. Inflation is still hurting them badly,” before revealing a policy agenda that many felt was racist and discriminatory. Biden told Bash, “I provided for the idea that any black family first-time homebuyers should get a $10,000 tax credit to be able to buy their first home so they can get started.”

The remark prompted social media users to question why only black homebuyers would be eligible for the credit.

Others pointed out that “such a policy would be a blatant violation of the 14th Amendment’s Equal Protection Clause.”

Biden doubled down on the idea in a post on X, formerly Twitter. He appeared to ignore how inflation is placing a strain on most American families, which did not go unnoticed by users who commented on his post.

One user simply wrote, “That’s racist,” while another pointed out that homebuyers would still be paying more for homes because of Biden’s failed policies.
