It may come as no surprise to proponents of free speech that Big Tech giants are suspected of meddling with election information ahead of the 2022 midterms. Since President Trump was banned from Twitter in early 2021, internet censorship and suppression have run rampant.
According to a report from Fox News, Google is allegedly manipulating results to suppress Republican candidates in Senate races across the country. Per the outlet, a media watchdog organization, Media Research Center (MRC), pinpointed the issue by analyzing several different Senate races and discovered that 10 Republican campaign websites were ranked much lower than their Democrat challengers on the search result page.
Google additionally hid 7 out of 12 Senate Republican candidates’ campaign websites on the first page of search results, MRC reported. Their findings revealed that Google’s search results were allegedly highly suppressed when compared to other search engines like DuckDuckGo and Bing.
Per Fox News, Google has denied that they are suppressing or manipulating search engine results.
L. Brent Bozell, the president of Media Research Center, stated: “First, researchers caught Google red-handed by proving Republican campaign emails were sent to spam. Now we’ve uncovered Google manipulating search results to hide Republican campaign websites while promoting Democratic ones. This is all an effort by Google to help Democrats and interfere in the democratic process.”
Censorship at the hands of Big Tech has been a hot topic for the past two years. As previously reported by RSBN, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., recently introduced legislation to abolish Section 230, which would eliminate protections from liability for companies like Facebook related to publishing content from third parties.
In September, Rep. Ronny Jackson, R-Texas, took a swing at Big Tech in a heated Twitter post, lambasting Internet platforms for “election meddling.” He stated, “ENOUGH! No more censorship. No more election meddling. It’s time to drag these militant Big Tech CEOs in front of Congress for a REAL investigation. Election interference is a crime that MUST be investigated!!”
Despite the censorship and suppression online of conservative content, several free-speech social media platforms have arisen since 2021 to combat the Big Tech epidemic, including Truth Social.
