An Inspector General report has been released addressing many longstanding questions about the events of Jan. 6, 2021.
The report was presented by Justice Department Inspector General Michael Horowitz and revealed that the FBI had 26 confidential sources present at the Capitol.
According to Horowitz, only three of the sources were tasked by the FBI to be present at the Capitol and the rest traveled to Washington D.C. of their own accord. Horowitz stated none of the sources were authorized by the FBI to break the law or encourage others to break the law.
The information in the report has led to further questions about the extent of FBI involvement on that day.
Charlie Kirk of Turning Point USA tweeted in response to the report.
“An Inspector General Report confirms the FBI had 26 confidential human sources on the ground at J6 and that some of them went into the Capitol.” Kirk stated. “Was this entrapment? Why did it take us four years to learn this? Criminal.”
Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, also expressed skepticism about the FBI’s role in the event.
“An FBI Confidential Human Source entered the Capitol on January 6th.” Jordan stated in post on X. “The FBI never asked him to enter the Capitol. The CHS didn’t get arrested. The FBI paid for his travel to D.C. And the CHS was tasked by the FBI to return for the inauguration of Joe Biden.”
The report states that four of the confidential FBI sources entered the Capitol on January 6th while 13 entered the restricted area around the Capitol. Horowitz stated of the three sources specifically tasked by the FBI to be present, one entered the Capitol and two entered the restricted area.
President Trump has previously indicated his willingness to pardon individuals prosecuted in relation to the events of Jan. 6 and has recently stated he is likely to begin that process very soon after taking office.
