President Trump campaigned on the promise to stop the endless flow of illegal migrants into the United States, and in less than four months, he has done just that.
His reversal of Biden’s four-year “catch and release” border policy, along with the near-immediate mass deportation operation, has resulted in a remarkable increase in applications from individuals eager to work at the nation’s borders.
According to the agency, since January, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) has received 34,650 applications, a 44 percent increase from the same four-month period in 2024.
A press release from CBP highlighted the surge’s significance, calling it “the most successful four-month recruitment stretch in the agency’s history.”
“This historic spike in applicants is a direct reflection of the renewed national commitment to border security under the leadership of President Trump, the Department of Homeland Security, and U.S. Customs and Border Protection,” the release stated.
U.S. Border Patrol Chief Michael Banks thanked the Trump administration “for their leadership and commitment to strengthening our workforce and mission readiness”.
“The continued surge in applications speaks volumes about the pride and purpose Americans see in joining the U.S. Border Patrol,” Banks remarked.
The press release also said the increase in applications “underscores the public’s confidence in this administration’s strong enforcement priorities and the sense of purpose Americans feel in answering the call to protect the homeland.”
Chief Banks celebrated the surge in a post on X. “Border security is back on track! Under bold new leadership, the U.S. Border Patrol is experiencing a resurgence across the nation. Nowhere is this more evident than at the U.S. Border Patrol Academy, which is projected to train more agents this fiscal year than in any year over the past decade- a stronger, safer future starts here.”
Monthly encounters at the southern border have drastically decreased since Trump took office. CBP proudly shared the Department of Homeland Security’s April report on X.
“When it comes to our mission—we are locked in. Look at these EPIC drops,” the agency wrote.
The report showed a 93 percent decrease in border apprehensions for April and a 99.9 percent drop in the release of illegal aliens compared to the same period in 2024.
