Following President Trump’s remarkably successful first 100 days, top GOP lawmakers appeared on various media outlets to outline their progress in legislating his America First agenda and extending the 2017 tax cuts.
During an interview with Maria Bartiromo on Sunday Morning Futures, Senate Majority Whip John Barrasso, R-Wyo., said, “I’m very confident we’ll get there,” when asked if the Republicans had enough votes in the Senate to pass the reconciliation bill.
He applauded the progress made in Trump’s first 100 days, including confirming his Cabinet, securing the border, and lowering prices, calling it “breathtaking.”
He stressed how critical the next 100 days will be to passing a comprehensive economic plan that fulfills the promises made to the American people.
Barrasso clarified that extending Trump’s 2017 tax cuts was the top priority. If not, “the Democrats’ $4 trillion tax increase will come into play,” he told Bartiromo.
When pressed on spending cuts, Barrasso said the Senate may have more cuts in the works than the House’s $1.5 trillion.
He pointed out that the wasteful spending uncovered by the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) was unacceptable.
“When people see this list of $20 million for Sesame Street in Iraq or sex change operations in Guatemala, people are furious here in Wyoming and across the country. The Democrats are mad too, not because of the amount of spending, but because we exposed the amount of spending … we need to wipe this out,” Barrasso stated.
He said the Senate aimed to cut spending by $2 trillion to “make a difference in the lives of the American people and get this country back on track and get more money into their pockets.”
GOP Majority Whip Tom Emmer appeared on CNBC to discuss the importance of extending Trump’s tax cuts.
“I think extending the tax cuts that have been in place for the last seven years is imperative. If we don’t get it done, the average American is going to experience $1600 in increase in their taxes,” Emmer emphasized.
President Trump also discussed the tax cuts and the upcoming “Big, Beautiful Bill” during a recent “Meet the Press” interview.
Trump told the outlet that the tax cuts would be the largest in the nation’s history, expressing confidence that they would reach his desk before July 4.
