DeSantis declares war on mandatory vaccinations

by Gary Smith

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis has written a new chapter in the book of pro-freedom actions he has carried out for the Sunshine state with a series of ‘suggested legislative policies’ that will undermine the enforcement of federal vaccine mandates.

At a press conference on Thursday, DeSantis proposed that state lawmakers hold businesses directly liable for any medical harm, including death, that results from employees that were bullied into getting vaccinated to avoid being fired.

“If anyone has been forced to do an injection and has an adverse reaction, that business should be liable,” the Florida governor said. “No one should lose their job over a COVID shot.”

DeSantis also called for an addendum to a law passed in March which protects Florida businesses from “coronavirus-related liability,” opening up those businesses to now be sued if they mandate the vaccine for workers.

In addition to his sweeping anti-vaccine mandate measures, the governor wants a law that empowers parents to collect attorney’s fees if they are victorious in suing school districts that force kids into complying with illegal COVID restrictions.

Lastly, DeSantis wants the Florida Senate and House to criminalize mandating vaccination for government employment. He plans to call a special session of the Florida legislature in November, instead of January when they are scheduled to reconvene, so these measures can be considered and passed expeditiously by the Republican-controlled body.

Florida House Speaker Chris Sprowls and Senate President Wilton Simpson have issued a joint statement of support for the governor’s special session and said they look forward to “reviewing” the informal legislative proposals shared on Thursday in Clearwater, Fla.

“Our goal is to make our laws even more clear that Florida stands as refuge for families and businesses who want to live in freedom,” the lawmakers said in their statement.

State Rep. Anthony Sabatini proudly announced his support for the special session, tweeting Thursday, “This is a HUGE WIN for medical freedom, and a HUGE L for RINOs,” using a phrase short for Republicans In Name Only.

Sabatini also shared his petition to use Gov. DeSantis’ special session to end all vaccine and mask mandates in Florida, a practice he called “mandated tyranny” by “woke corporations.”

These calls come as a December deadline looms over federal contractors to get vaccinated or lose their careers, and as the Biden administration prepares to use the Occupational Safety and Health Administration to enforce vaccine mandates on businesses with over 100 employees. The heads of the Florida House and Senate have promised to nullify Biden’s vaccine mandate for private businesses by creating a state-controlled agency to replace OSHA.

With the upcoming special session, the future is looking bright for residents of the Sunshine State, and for the political future of Florida’s courageous Gov. Ron DeSantis.
