Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis tore into the Biden administration Thursday for neglecting the crisis at the southern border.

“There’s a massive, massive caravan that’s coming towards the southern border right now,” DeSantis said Friday while speaking at a press conference in Fort Walton Beach, Florida. “And what is Biden doing? He’s fumbling around on late-night TV shows. He needs to get in the game here, and he needs to defend our country’s sovereignty.”

The governor added that, while the situation at the border had improved under President Donald Trump, under Biden, it is now “the worst it’s ever been.”

DeSantis’ remarks came amid news that a new wave of migrants was making its way to the southern border. On Friday, it reportedly took a group of 800 just one hour to cross into Yuma, Arizona.

With migrants also overwhelming the border in Texas, DeSantis told Florida Politics that his advice to Texas Gov. Greg Abbott would be to send them back across the border rather than to Washington, D.C., or Delaware.

“They let them come across, and then you give them to the feds, and the feds just release them anyways,” the Floridian reportedly said. “What they need to do, Texas, is Texas should just send them back across the border.”

The outlet further reported that DeSantis said he would be willing to help Abbott with efforts to push back against the onslaught of migrants.

At the federal level, Republicans in the House and Senate have also been bringing attention to the issue, urging the Department of Homeland Security to investigate the Biden administration’s mishandling of the border crisis.

Thursday, in a follow-up to a letter the group sent back in January, the lawmakers again pressed DHS Inspector General Joseph Cuffari to look into the matter, noting that there was precedent for such an investigation.

“Since our letter was sent, the situation at the border has only become worse,” the legislators noted in the letter obtained by Fox News. “In April 2022, DHS reported 234,088 apprehensions at the southern border, which is the highest number recorded for a single month in over twenty years. Members of Congress and the American people look forward to your comprehensive investigation into what has caused this crisis in order to prevent it from ever happening again.”
