Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) slammed Joe Biden’s move to threaten to withhold federal funding for school lunches in the Sunshine State in an attempt to pressure districts into changing their policies regarding gender identity and sexual orientation.

“We’re prepared for what Biden throws our way,” Gov. DeSantis stated during a recent press conference. He called out “intentionally destructive policies” on behalf of the Biden administration, “like trying to deny school lunch programs for states that don’t do transgender ideology in the schools? I mean, give me a break.”

In May, the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) announced that it would be interpreting and implementing guidelines establishing “the prohibition on discrimination based on sex.”

The USDA’s announcement added, “This action is in line with President Biden’s Executive Order on Preventing and Combating Discrimination on the Basis of Gender Identity or Sexual Orientation.”

According to a report from Breitbart, Biden’s administration will pull the plug on funding for student lunches, breakfasts, and more unless they comply with the USDA and FNS’s implementation and “interpretation” of Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972, as well as Biden’s executive order, which he signed in January 2021.

Fox News reported that such an example of implementing this type of policy would be allowing transgender students to access the bathrooms of the gender they identify with, meaning that biological boys could access girls’ bathrooms, and biological girls could access boys’ bathrooms.

The USDA will require “state and local agencies, program operators and sponsors who receive funds” from the FNS to update their policies regarding gender identity and sexual discrimination.

“[Biden’s] totally off his rocker to be doing that,” Gov. DeSantis quipped. “We’re fighting on that, don’t worry. So, we’re just prepared to be able to defend the taxpayers, and the hardworking people in the state of Florida, and I couldn’t be prouder for doing that.”
