Donald Trump Jr. said Rep. Liz Cheney, R-Wyo., should be investigated after accusing her of using the Jan. 6 Committee to “target and harass her political enemies.”
“Liz Cheney should be investigated over how she has openly used this sham of a committee to target and harass her political enemies,” Trump Jr. posted on Twitter Sunday.
This came after an announcement that the committee would hear testimony from former Trump campaign manager Bill Stepien, who is currently advising Trump-endorsed candidate Harriet Hageman’s campaign to oust Cheney from Congress, according to a report from The Hill.
Hageman ended May with a staggering 30-point lead ahead of Cheney, with 56 percent of primary voters expressing support for the Trump-endorsed candidate. Cheney managed to receive only 26 percent of the vote.
According to the Washington Times, the Jan. 6 Committee subpoenaed Stepien last fall, alleging he “supervised the conversion of the Trump presidential campaign to an effort focused on the ‘Stop the Steal’ messaging and related fundraising.”
The committee has also accused Stepien of urging lawmakers to delay the certification of the 2020 presidential election, the report adds.
Last week, the “Unselect Committee,” President Trump called it, held its first public hearing, and it plans to hold several more over the summer.
President Trump pushed back against the committee in a string of Truths last week for failing to ignore serious election fraud concerns.
