Dr. Ben Carson revealed he has spoken with President Donald Trump about what can be done to “save this country” amid speculation that he may be in the running for Trump’s vice president.
Carson and Trump have maintained a strong relationship since Carson served in the Trump administration as the secretary of Housing and Urban Development. Carson also recently campaigned for President Trump in Iowa earlier this month.
An interview on NewsNation’s “On Balance” with Carson’s former deputy chief of staff, Shermichael Singleton, revealed that the neurosurgeon remains one of the few Republicans broadly accepted by the Trump base and swing voters.
Singleton added that compared to a Biden-Harris ticket, Carson could help Trump win black voters based on his family values, work ethic, and focus on the economy.
Carson appeared on Sunday Morning Futures with Maria Bartiromo last weekend and was asked if Trump contacted him about being a potential vice president choice.
Carson responded, “I don’t want to talk about what we’ve talked about, but we’ve talked about what we can do to save this country and that we will work together to make sure that America remains America.”
He added, “People are starting to recognize that the Trump administration was on the side of black America, that the things they enacted were extremely positive.”
Carson argued that the Trump administration made positive contributions for all Americans while in office, and has the potential to do that again with another four years in the White House.
