As America continues to recover from the harmful lockdown policies brought forth during the Covid-19 pandemic, one surprising celebrity has vocally expressed his anger towards the draconian quarantines: psychologist and television host Dr. Phil McGraw.
Appearing on “Dr. Phil Primetime” this week, Dr. Phil explained to audience members that the government’s response to Covid-19, especially the lockdowns, created “more problems with the quality of lives” than the pandemic did “with the taking lives.”
Explaining how “nobody knew what was going on” during the beginning of the pandemic, McGraw reminded that the U.S. government originally promised two weeks of lockdowns—then noting how “a few weeks turned into months, and months turned into two years.”
“You expect there would be a plan, a readiness plan, that takes into account all the collateral damage that can come from doing something like that,” McGraw emphasized. “And then, you start seeing all these problems and you hear people say, ‘Well, we did the best we could with what we knew.'”
He continued, “No, they did not. They knew better, and if they didn’t know better, they damn well should’ve known better. That’s what they’re paid to do.”
Dr. Phil then called out the government for closing schools, saying that there was really no plan for their reopening.
“I didn’t see a plan for them to be reopened,” McGraw explained. “And we have an entire generation that is suffering from developmental gaps, educational gaps, mental and emotional challenges—and still there’s not a good plan to close those gaps.”
“My concern is when the next pandemic turns the corner: Whose got the plan then?” McGraw asked. “What was learned from this?”
The television host then expressed how the government has seemingly ignored these issues, warning that, “We need to get ready for when this happens again.”
“We need to think about whether we’re gonna rely on science and how we’re gonna react when the government comes in and starts telling us what we can and can’t do,” said McGraw.
He concluded, “I think we need less government. If they would step back, we tend to have a way to work things out.”
Dr. Phil has been a recent and vociferous critic of the pandemic lockdowns, even appearing on ABC’s “The View” earlier this year to blast the closure of public schools.
“In, like, ’08, ’09, smartphones came on, and kids started, they stopped living their lives and starting watching people live their lives, and so we saw the biggest spike and the highest levels of depression, anxiety, loneliness, and suicidality, since records have ever been kept, and it’s just continued on and on and on,” McGraw told “The View” hosts.
He continued, “And then Covid hits 10 years later, and the same agencies that knew that, are the agencies that shut down the schools for two years. Who does that? Who takes away the support system for these children? Who takes it away and shuts it down?”
Even after facing pushback from the program’s liberal hosts, with Whoopi Goldberg explaining how she knew a lot of people who died from the pandemic, McGraw reiterated that the deaths were “not school children.”
