FBI Director Kash Patel joined Team USA’s men’s hockey team in celebrating its gold medal victory at the Winter Olympics in Milan on Sunday, according to the Daily Mail.
Patel, a self-described hockey enthusiast, attended the game in Italy as the United States defeated Canada 2-1 in overtime. The win came days after the American women’s team also secured gold in overtime.
Following the game, Patel congratulated the players and entered the locker room to participate in the celebration. Photos from the celebration show Patel with head coach Mike Sullivan and several players, including Jack Hughes, who scored the overtime goal that clinched the championship.
Patel later wrote on X: “I love America and was extremely humbled when my friends, the newly minted Gold Medal winners on Team USA, invited me into the locker room to celebrate this historic moment with the boys — Greatest country on earth and greatest sport on earth.”
In an earlier post, alongside images from the locker room, Patel wrote: “Unity, Sacrifice, Attitude — what it takes to be the best in the world.”
President Donald Trump also spoke with the team by phone to congratulate the players and reportedly invited them to attend his upcoming State of the Union address, RSBN previously reported.
Sullivan told reporters that President Trump “just spoke to the group expressing how proud he was of the group and congratulating everybody on the win. Obviously, this game in a lot of ways was an inspiration to our country.”
The president also posted to Truth Social following the historic victory.
“Congratulations to our great U.S.A. Ice Hockey team. THEY WON THE GOLD. WOW!” he wrote.
In a series of follow-up posts, he exclaimed “WHAT A GAME” and “LOTS OF WINNING!!!”
“The most Gold Medals ever won by Team USA at the Olympics!” he concluded.
