The final race for the U.S. House of Representatives has been called, with California Democrat Adam Gray winning by 187 votes in the state’s 13th District.

The win ended the 2024 election with Republicans holding a slim advantage in the House, holding 220 seats while Democrats won 215.

“I’m honored to become the Congressman-elect for California’s 13th Congressional District. The final results confirm this district is ready for independent and accountable leadership that always puts the Valley’s people ahead of partisan politics,” Gray posted to X. “But the work has just begun.”

“In Washington, I’ll work everyday to deliver the resources that the Valley needs: clean water, better educational opportunities, stronger infrastructure, and more good-paying jobs,” he wrote. “And you can count on me to build bipartisan relationships to accomplish these goals.”

The race was one of three that remained undecided weeks after the Nov. 5 election.

In the state’s 45th District, Democrat Derek Tran ultimately won against Republican incumbent Rep. Michelle Steel by less than 1,000 votes.

In Iowa’s 1st District, Republican Rep. Mariannette Miller-Meeks held an approximately 800-vote lead over Democrat Christina Bohannan. A recount was conducted before the final winner was determined.

Miller-Meeks held her advantage and won. She released a statement two days following the election to thank supporters.

“First, thank you to all you voted. As veterans, we secured that right and privilege for you. Second, thank you to all those who supported, volunteered, poll watched, put up signs or donated. Couldn’t have done it without you. Third, I’m honored and humbled to serve you,” she wrote on X.

Following the election, House Speaker Mike Johnson retained his role as GOP leader while Democratic Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries remained in place for his party.

Despite the victory, Republicans will soon face special elections due to President Donald Trump choosing House members for some of his administration’s roles. Rep. Elise Stefanik of New York was nominated to serve as the U.S. Ambassador to the United Nations.

Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz also resigned from Congress when he was nominated as U.S. District Attorney. He later withdrew from the nomination and announced that he did not plan to return to his congressional seat.
