First Lady Melania Trump will preside over the United Nations Security Council meeting next week, her office announced.
“First Lady Melania Trump is set to make history at the United Nations, taking the gavel as the United States assumes the Security Council Presidency to emphasize education’s role in advancing tolerance and world peace,” according to the Office of the First Lady.
This will be the first time in history that a U.S. First Lady will preside over such a meeting.
The meeting will take place on March 2 at the United Nations Headquarters in New York City, and will include U.S. Ambassador to the U.N. Mike Walz.
The three main focuses of the meeting will be children, technology, and education in conflict, Mrs. Trump’s office said.
The First Lady has been a vocal champion of peace, and she has also long advocated for the well-being of children in the U.S. and beyond through her “Be Best” and “Fostering the Future” initiatives.
She has been working relentlessly, for example, to reunite displaced children in Eastern Europe with their parents – children who have been torn from their families amid the ongoing war between Russia and Ukraine.
So far, Mrs. Trump has helped facilitate three successful reunification events with Russian and Ukrainian children and their families. She has worked with Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky to coordinate these ongoing efforts, per RSBN.
The First Lady has also been involved in advocating for the responsible and safe integration of AI technology into the American landscape – particularly education.
“We are leading in a moment of wonder, and it is our responsibility to prepare children in America,” she said earlier this year, while hosting a White House Task Force on AI Education.
