This is only the second week of the Manhattan criminal trial against President Donald Trump in New York, but it seems as if District Attorney Alvin Bragg’s case is falling apart right out of the gate.
After a tense week of jury selection last week, this past week’s trial proceedings have seemed to help President Trump more than harm him. National Enquirer publisher David Pecker, for example, testified this week, and his witness seemed tepid on the subject of Trump and the 2016 presidential campaign.
Pecker testified that he allegedly helped the Trump campaign “catch and kill” negative stories before they went to publication during the 2016 presidential race, and shared a various array of stories related to that function, per the Associated Press.
Another interesting point was that Pecker testified that Michael Cohen, Trump’s former attorney, allegedly “complained” about not getting a bonus from the then-presidential candidate, and “suggested that he’d paid off Stormy Daniels with his own personal funds.”
The entire case hinges on whether Trump ordered Michael Cohen to pay Stormy Daniels “hush money” to cover up an alleged affair during a tense election year. Trump has vehemently denied having had an affair with the porn actress, and he has called the case a “HOAX.”
On Thursday, the president wrote on Truth Social, “BIG DAY IN COURT(S) TODAY. The Soros backed Alvin Bragg case, presided over by a highly conflicted Judge, has completely fallen apart.”
He continued, “Virtually every Legal Scholar and Expert has stated that there is no Crime, there never was. It is a complete HOAX, but the other side has a Judge who is fighting for them all the way! MAGA2024!”
On Thursday, Judge Juan Merchan signed an order that would allow more arguments in the contempt motion filed against Trump by DA Bragg. The court will ultimately decide whether Trump will be fined for social media posts that he made on Truth Social and several other newly identified alleged violations of his standing gag order, per the AP.
