Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla., shared an exciting health update Thursday on his wife and Florida First Lady Casey DeSantis.
DeSantis shared that Casey is now considered cancer-free after completing her cancer treatments and surgery.
In a video-recorded message, DeSantis said, “I have a positive update about my wife, Casey DeSantis. After going through both treatment and surgery for breast cancer, she is now considered cancer-free.”
After sharing the exciting news, DeSantis thanked everyone for their support, saying, “All of you who have given thoughts and prayers to my family and my wife, thank you. It’s lifted her spirits and made a tremendous difference.”
DeSantis also encouraged other women facing cancer. “For all the women out there who are going through breast cancer right now – you can overcome this,” the governor explained, “I know it’s very difficult, but my wife is proof positive.”
The governor’s message concluded with a confident statement about Casey’s continued recovery. He said, “This is exactly the type of news we had hoped for. She still has more to do, but I’m confident she’s going to make a full recovery. Thank you for all your thoughts and prayers. God Bless you all.”
Casey DeSantis also made a public statement regarding her recent health update. She said, “There are no words to express how truly blessed, grateful, and humbled I am to hear the words cancer-free.” She encouraged those battling cancer to continue the fight, saying, “To those who are in the fight, know there is hope. Have faith and stay strong.”
The governor’s office revealed Casey’s breast cancer diagnosis last October. In the following months, she received chemotherapy treatments and underwent surgery.
At the beginning of this year, Ron DeSantis expressed optimism for his wife’s treatments, saying, “We’re getting closer to the end…Our view is that 2022 will be the year where we can say that she is cancer-free, and that will be something that will be really important.”
Ron DeSantis, who is up for reelection this November, has continued to lead the fight for freedom in Florida throughout his wife’s battle against cancer. Now, with Casey’s victory against cancer, DeSantis can continue to move forward in his reelection campaign.
