Hillary Clinton personally authorized the dissemination of allegations of Russian collusion against President Donald Trump to the press, according to testimony given by her 2016 campaign manager on Friday.
As reported by the New York Post, Robby Mook made the bombshell statement while testifying as a witness in defense of former Clinton campaign lawyer Michael Sussman, who is on trial for allegedly lying to the FBI.
Per the Post, Mook described the conversation with Clinton as starting with him saying, “Hey, we have this and we want to share it with a reporter.” The then-Democratic presidential nominee, he added, agreed to the idea.
Mook’s admission under oath is the first piece of evidence to show that Clinton was aware of the allegations that the Trump Organization had a secret server linked to Russia’s Alfa Bank before they were leaked to the press.
Adding that no one on the Clinton campaign had instructed Sussman to take the information to the FBI, Mook further testified that campaign staffers were not “totally confident” that the allegations were true when they decided to leak them to the press, Bloomberg reported.
“All I remember is that she agreed with it,” Mook said of Clinton, per Bloomberg. “She thought we made the right decision.”
In October 2016, just days before the election, Clinton tweeted out her campaign’s response to the allegations with the note, “Computer scientists have apparently uncovered a covert server linking the Trump Organization to a Russian-based bank.”
Both the presidential candidate’s tweet and the statement issued by Hillary for America Senior Policy Adviser Jake Sullivan were phrased as if neither had any knowledge of the allegations before their being made public.
Contending that the alleged server link raised “troubling questions,” Sullivan said, “We can only assume that federal authorities will now explore this direct connection between Trump and Russia as part of their existing probe into Russia’s meddling in our elections.”
In light of Mook’s testimony, Clinton’s feigned ignorance of the since-debunked claims received renewed attention on Twitter Friday. One user brought her tweet to Elon Musks’s attention as “misleading disinformation.”
“You are absolutely correct,” Twitter’s owner-to-be replied. “That tweet is a Clinton campaign hoax for which their campaign lawyer is currently undergoing trial.”
Musk then responded again, tagging Twitter’s CEO Parag Agrawal and Legal, Policy and Trust Lead Vijaya Gadde to ask them their opinions on whether the tweet violated Twitter’s policies.
Although Clinton has yet to be suspended from Twitter, she may still have to answer in another forum for spreading the false “Russian collusion” narrative – court.
On March 24, President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit against Clinton, the Democratic National Committee, and others for their respective roles in promoting the hoax.
“Acting in concert, the Defendants maliciously conspired to weave a false narrative that their Republican opponent, Donald J. Trump, was colluding with a hostile foreign sovereignty,” Trump’s filing asserts.
As the bad news days continue to pile up for the former first lady, and with one of her former lawyers embroiled in his own scandal, it seems that one of The Swamp’s most untouchable elites may be in dire need of legal representation soon.
