House Republicans serving on the Oversight and Accountability Committee are taking a second look at a probe aimed at the DOJ’s “potential failure to uphold the rights of victims who were sexually exploited by Hunter Biden.”
According to a release from the Oversight Committee, Chairman James Comer, R-Ky., and Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., warned the DOJ in a letter that the federal agency’s prior deflection of the committee’s inquiry “flies in the face of the agency’s own policies.”
Therefore, the committee has renewed their request for documents, communications, and briefings related to this matter, per their statement.
The committee additionally alleged that two IRS whistleblowers who investigated Hunter Biden’s tax problems potentially exposed the DOJ’s “politicization and misconduct during the investigation before a House Oversight and Accountability hearing.”
They explained the following:
“Following the whistleblowers’ testimonies, on July 25, Chairman Comer and Rep. Greene wrote a letter to DOJ requesting information related to DOJ’s conduct involving the victims, including why it chose to forgo particular charges and pursue crimes that could preclude victims from receiving relief under the law. DOJ failed to respond to this letter beyond confirming its receipt.”
In a letter to Hillary Axim, the National Human Trafficking Coordinator for the DOJ, and Kristina Rose, the director of the Office for Victims of Crime, Comer and Greene expanded on the agency’s decision to ignore the requests of Congress.
“This conduct is unprofessional and concerning given your leadership roles at DOJ. Considering the seriousness of this obstructive behavior, we request information as to whether anyone advised you not to respond to our inquiry, including any Department employee at the U.S. Attorney’s Office in Delaware, DOJ Office of Legislative Affairs (OLA), Main Justice, or the White House,” they wrote.
Earlier this week, Chairman Comer issued six subpoenas targeting both the Department of Homeland Security and the Secret Service regarding the alleged coverup and misconduct of these federal agencies in probing Hunter Biden’s reported criminal dealings.
“The Department of Justice initiated the Biden family coverup and now DHS under the leadership of Secretary Mayorkas is complicit in it,” the Oversight Committee stated.
