President Donald Trump expressed his sympathies towards his predecessor after hearing Joe Biden had been diagnosed with an “aggressive form” of prostate cancer.

“Melania and I are saddened to hear about Joe Biden’s recent medical diagnosis,” the president wrote in a post to Truth Social. “We extend our warmest and best wishes to Jill and the family, and we wish Joe a fast and successful recovery.”

Joe Biden, 82-years-old, was diagnosed with a way more “aggressive form” of prostate cancer, according to a statement from his office released Sunday.

He was officially diagnosed after being seen for “a new finding of a prostate nodule after experiencing increasing urinary symptoms,” according to the official statement, “characterized by a Gleason score of 9 (Grade Group 5) with metastasis to the bone.”

“While this represents a more aggressive form of the disease, the cancer appears to be hormone-sensitive which allows for effective management. The President and his family are reviewing treatment options with his physicians,” read his office’s statement.

Surgery is rarely an option in cases like Biden’s, ABC News reported, since the cancer has spread to the bone and is not restricted to the prostate.

According to the National Cancer Institute, prostate cancer is the most common cancer and the second leading cause of cancer death among men in the United States.

It has a five-year survival rate, meaning roughly 98 percent of those with prostate cancer survive at least five years after being initially diagnosed.
