Lara Trump will step down as co-chair of the Republican National Committee as speculation grows about her future role, including as a potential Florida senator.

Talk continues to swirl over Lara Trump being appointed to replace Florida Republican Sen. Marco Rubio upon his confirmation as President Donald Trump’s Secretary of State.

“It is something I would seriously consider,” she told The Associated Press in an interview. “If I’m being completely transparent, I don’t know exactly what that would look like. And I certainly want to get all of the information possible if that is something that’s real for me. But yeah, I would 100% consider it.”

She addressed the resignation in a post to X on Sunday evening where she outlined her decision.

Serving as the @GOPco-chair throughout the course of the most consequential election in American history has truly been the honor of my life,” she began.

“At the RNC, we had three distinct goals: 1) surpass all fundraising records 2) build the largest army of lawyers and poll watchers to ensure election integrity and, 3) turn out millions of Americans and low propensity voters during early voting. We accomplished all three,” she continued.

“The job I came to do is now complete and I intend to formally step down from the RNC at our next meeting. Thank you to our incredible team at the RNC, our amazing @ChairmanWhatley, and, of course, thank you to President @realDonaldTrump — we are so proud of you and I’m grateful you trusted me in this position,” Lara Trump concluded.

Lara Trump was elected as the RNC’s co-chair in March where she served in a key role to help the party win back the White House, Senate and House of Representatives. However, the idea of Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis appointing her to the Senate could be controversial considering her family ties to the president.

For now, Rubio is expected to remain in his role as senator until his nomination process is complete. The lengthy effort will likely take a few weeks as the Senate moves through various nominations.

The future may also hold other roles for Lara Trump, as her options remain open-ended and the president could appoint her to other roles in Washington.
