White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt on Monday criticized CNN for not airing live coverage of President Donald Trump’s event honoring families who lost loved ones in crimes committed by people in the country illegally.

CNN said it focused its broadcast coverage on a major blizzard affecting the Northeast but included the White House event in its live blog, according to Fox News.

Leavitt accused the network of deliberately avoiding the event.

“[CNN] is a total disgrace,” she wrote on X. “President Trump hosted a powerful event honoring Angel Families who lost loved ones at the hands of illegal alien criminals and deadly drugs – but CNN refused to cover EVEN one second of it.

“They pretend to be a news organization, but they refuse to cover anything that doesn’t fit the Left’s narrative,” she added. “This is why CNN is failing and losing all of their viewership.”

The White House ceremony featured President Trump meeting with families of victims, including the mother of Laken Riley, a Georgia nursing student who was killed last year. During the event, Trump signed a proclamation designating Feb. 22 as National Angel Family Day.

In his remarks, President Trump said the families in attendance had experienced profound loss.

“Everyone in this room not only suffered an infinite loss,” he said. “They were the victims of politicians who put the comfort of foreign criminals before the safety of American citizens and American patriots. Their stories were censored and suppressed like maybe almost never before so that the politicians could open our borders and allow our nation to be invaded.”

President Trump said he had sought for years to formally recognize Angel Families.

“In just a few moments, I officially sign a proclamation that I’ve been waiting to sign for a long time,” he said. “Feb. 22 is going to be National Angel Family Day. Very important.”

Riley was killed after going for a run on the University of Georgia campus. President Trump described how she “went out for a run on a college campus in Georgia” and was “viciously attacked, brutally beaten, and murdered by an illegal alien gang member who the last administration heartlessly released into our country.”
