Midterm elections are right around the corner which means that the party vying for power fights hard to regain congressional seats lost in the previous elections. House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy, who is also seeking reelection, recently vowed to strip three prominent Democrats of their committee assignments if Republicans take back the House in 2022.
In an interview with Breitbart on Monday, House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy revealed he will immediately remove committee positions from Democrat Reps. Eric Swalwell, D-Calif., Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., and Adam Schiff, D-Calif.
More specifically, McCarthy vowed to rid Reps. Eric Swalwell and Adam Schiff of their assignments on the House Permanent Select Committee on Intelligence (HPSCI) and strip Rep. Ilhan Omar of her assignment on the House Foreign Affairs Committee. In addition, Rep. Schiff would be stripped of his assignment on the Intelligence Committee.
McCarthy explained his reasoning for playing hardball with the radical left Democrats. “They have created a new thing where they’re picking and choosing who can be on committees,” McCarthy said in the exclusive interview. “Never in the history of Congress have you had the majority tell the minority who can be on committee.”
“This is a new level of what the Democrats have done,” McCarthy added, trying to hold his Democrat counterparts accountable for their own actions.
The decision to revoke their assignments comes in retaliation to the Democrats who did the same to Republican Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., and Paul Gosar, R-Ariz. The two Republicans were stripped of their committee assignments by Democrats over social media posts. This unprecedented political move clearly shows that for any reigning party, it could backfire.
If the GOP wins back the legislature in 2022, McCarthy will reinstate Reps. Marjorie Taylor Greene and Paul Gosar to the committee assignments they lost under Democrat leadership.
