President Donald Trump’s massive victory will undoubtedly influence matters around the world, and it appears it already has in Mexico.
Over the weekend, Mexican authorities broke apart a large migrant caravan traveling to the United States through the southern portion of Mexico.
Breitbart News reported that the illegal migrants were bussed to various places throughout the country with the promise of helping them fill out the proper paperwork to attempt legal entrance into the United States.
The move came shortly after Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo held phone calls with President-elect Trump, during which he discussed tariffs for Mexico’s inaction regarding the flow of drugs, illegal migration and asylum seekers to the United States.
According to Breitbart, the caravan was heading to Mexico City to seek various modes of transportation into the country. The outlet reported that it was a common practice to dissipate once a caravan reached the country’s capital city.
Mexico’s National Migration Institute (INM) sent buses and aid to over 1,600 illegal migrants and transported them to the states of Guerrero and Michoacan without incident.
The illegal migrants were likely hoping to enter the United States ahead of Trump’s inauguration on January 20, 2025.
Stopping the flow of illegal migration was at the forefront of President Trump’s campaign and likely played a significant role in his victory.
Around 55 percent of Americans want less immigration, both legal and illegal, according to a July Gallup poll.
Last Wednesday in a Truth Social post, President Trump announced Mexico’s plans regarding illegal migration.
“Just had a wonderful conversation with the new President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum Pardo. She has agreed to stop Migration through Mexico, and into the United States, effectively closing our Southern Border. We also talked about what can be done to stop the massive drug inflow into the United States, and also, U.S. consumption of these drugs. It was a very productive conversation!” he wrote.
In a follow-up post, the President-Elect remarked, “Mexico will stop people from going to our Southern Border, effective immediately. THIS WILL GO A LONG WAY TOWARD STOPPING THE ILLEGAL INVASION OF THE USA. Thank you!!!”
