Former National Security Advisor and Lt. Gen. Michael Flynn has slammed GOP presidential candidate Nikki Haley on social media for an “affront” to the First Amendment.
Flynn responded online to Haley’s interview with Fox News, where she explained she would push for social media users to become verified with their name. Haley believes that unverified users on social media are a threat to national security.
In the interview, Haley explained what she would do if she became president: “When I get into office, the first thing we have to do is social media accounts, social media companies, they have to show America their algorithms. Let us see why they’re pushing what they’re pushing.”
In addition to demanding more transparency from social media companies, Haley also outlined her controversial plan to have social media users verified via their names.
In the interview, Haley said, “The second thing is every person on social media should be verified by their name.” The presidential candidate claimed that anonymous users are not accountable for what they say and pose a threat to national security. This plan has drawn criticism from Flynn and other GOP candidates like Gov. Ron DeSantis, R-Fla.
Flynn slams Haley on X, writing, “I’m sorry @NikkiHaley, but this is such an affront to the 1st Amendment. Please step down from your inept and incompetent campaign before you completely destroy any credibility you have remaining.”
Referring to her strong opinions at the GOP debate about ending Hamas, Flynn further writes, “Your warmongering attitude is not welcome in American politics right now (except, of course, by the RINO establishment party of WDC). You are out of control and out of your league!”
DeSantis has also weighed in on Haley’s remarks. Fox News shared what DeSantis wrote on social media, “Haley’s proposal to ban anonymous speech online — similar to what China recently did — is dangerous and unconstitutional. It will be dead on arrival in my administration.”
