Kentucky Republican Sen. Mitch McConnell remains hospitalized and “continues to improve,” a spokesperson for the Kentucky Republican said Thursday, more than two weeks after he was admitted.

McConnell was hospitalized on June 14. The same day, emergency medical personnel responded to his home after receiving a report of an unconscious person, according to a public EMS dispatch call.

During the call, a dispatcher reported a “cardiac arrest,” while a medic said “CPR in progress” at McConnell’s address. The dispatcher also said someone was “unconscious.” The senator’s name was not mentioned during the call, and CBS News said it had not confirmed the identity of the person involved.

McConnell’s office has not confirmed whether the dispatch call involved the senator or provided additional details about the reason for his hospitalization.

“Senator McConnell appreciates the outpouring of support he’s receiving while he continues his recovery in the hospital,” a spokesperson said in a statement Thursday. “The Senator continues to improve, and is working closely with his staff on Kentucky and Senate matters while the Senate is out of session.”

On June 22, McConnell’s office stated that he was still working, but would not be present for votes.

“Senator McConnell is still working closely with staff on Senate business and Kentucky matters as he continues his recovery. However, he will not be voting this week,” a McConnell spokesperson said at the time.

McConnell, 84, is a childhood polio survivor and has experienced several health issues in recent years. During a Senate committee hearing on May 19, he appeared with a bandage on his hand. In February, he spent more than a week in the hospital after seeking treatment for flu-like symptoms.

In 2023, McConnell was hospitalized with a concussion after a fall and later experienced two highly publicized episodes in which he appeared to freeze while speaking. He also suffered minor injuries in another fall in 2024.
