Former Speaker of the House Newt Gingrich confidently predicted President Donald Trump would be the winner of the 2024 Republican primary.
“Trump will be the nominee,” stated Gingrich Thursday on Fox News’ The Ingraham Angle. Gingrich made his bold prediction after he and host Laura Ingraham discussed the speculation of Governor Glenn Youngkin, R-Va., launching a late bid for the White House. The former presidential candidate asked, “Do you want to see Joe Biden reelected, or do you want to help Donald Trump?”
The comments land on the heels of Wednesday night’s second Republican primary debate. Trump’s absence did not stop some of the challengers from making digs at the 45th president as he was in Michigan to address members of the United Auto Workers. However, Gingrich does not believe the debates are significant enough for any Republican to eclipse Trump’s commanding lead.
In fact, “I think the Republican National Committee should cancel the future debates,” said Gingrich. President Donald Trump became the leader of the Republican Party in 2016. Since then, he has remained the GOP favorite. Acknowledging Trump’s overwhelming poll numbers, “Trump is like 43 points ahead of the next person,” Gingrich noted.
The former congressman correlated President Trump’s popularity to the weaponization of government against him. “I think it tells you how terrified the Left is that they’re doing everything they can legally because they can’t do anything politically.”
According to recent data, President Donald Trump does not just lead the GOP candidates but also Joe Biden. A new Harris/Messenger poll revealed that Biden is trailing Trump by five points. Given Trump’s competitive edge, Gingrich raised concerns about stopping Biden’s “Justice Department” from assailing Trump with legal battles.
Gingrich stated that the “Biden model” for reelection includes keeping “everybody off the ballot” and having no “opponents.”
