Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG) CEO Devin Nunes appeared on Fox Business’ “Mornings with Maria” on Friday to discuss cracking down on the tyranny of Big Tech by restoring free speech with President Trump’s social media platform, Truth Social.
“At Truth Social, we cannot use any of the ‘tech giants’ because we don’t want to be in a position to be shut down,” Nunes said. “So now as we move forward, you know, we launched on the Apple App Store first. We just [launched] this week: TruthSocial.com, anyone can sign up on any device and get an account.”
During the interview, host Maria Bartiromo asked Nunes his thoughts on a Republican-led bill being floated right now that would break up Google’s monopoly on online advertising.
According to the Wall Street Journal, the bill is called “The Competition and Transparency in Digital Advertising Act,” and would level the playing field for companies making more than $20 billion in digital ad revenue – busting Google’s stronghold over Alphabet Inc., which is involved in a huge number of online advertising purchasing and selling.
Nunes commented on the bill, “I think what I really see is a lack of willingness by DOJ to actually bring these anti-trust cases against these companies.”
Additionally, Nunes discussed the difficult task of bringing free speech back to social media amid a culture of “Big Tech” giants who engage in rampant censorship, particularly toward those with conservative viewpoints.
He noted that at Truth Social, “we don’t want to be beholden to Google” to generate ad revenue.
Nunes commented on Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk’s highly-publicized bid to acquire Twitter for $44 billion. “Twitter has been, and always will be, a global PR wire for celebrities, Hollywood types, sports figures and, you know, political hacks…it really is a house of cards,” Nunes remarked. “There’s no way that it’s worth $44 billion dollars.”
He added, “He’s [Elon Musk] one of the smartest guys in the world, and he’s taking a hell of a beating for just trying to open up the internet and give people their voice back, which is what we’re trying to do at Truth Social…”
