President Donald Trump on Tuesday said Iran’s military has been “destroyed” and accused news organizations of “treason” for reporting that the country remains a functioning military power, ramping up his rhetoric amid the ongoing conflict.
In a post on Truth Social, the president asserted that Iran’s navy, air force, technology and leadership had been eliminated and described the country as an “economic disaster.”
“When the Fake News says that the Iranian enemy is doing well, Militarily, against us, it’s virtual TREASON in that it is such a false, and even preposterous, statement. They are aiding and abetting the enemy! All it does is give Iran false hope when none should exist,” he wrote.
“These are American cowards that are rooting against our Country. Iran had 159 ships in their Navy — Every single ship is now resting at the bottom of the sea. They have no Navy, their Air Force is gone, all Technology is gone, their “leaders” are no longer with us, and the Country is an Economic Disaster. Only Losers, Ingrates, and Fools are able to make a case against America!” the president added.
The remarks are the latest in a series of forceful statements from President Trump about the conflict, including repeated claims that U.S. and allied operations have severely degraded Iran’s capabilities.
The comments also come after the Pentagon made a rare announcement about the location of one of its nuclear submarines.
“The port visit demonstrates U.S. capability, flexibility and continuing commitment to its NATO allies,” the Sixth Fleet said in a statement. “Ohio-class ballistic missile submarines are undetectable launch platforms for submarine-launched ballistic missiles, providing the U.S. with its most survivable leg of the nuclear triad.”
“A U.S. Navy ballistic missile submarine arrived in Gibraltar, May, 10, 2026. The port visit demonstrates U.S. capability, flexibility, and continuing commitment to its NATO allies. Ohio-class ballistic missile submarines are undetectable launch platforms for submarine-launched ballistic missiles, providing the U.S. with its most survivable leg of the nuclear triad,” another statement noted.
