Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has called President Donald Trump a peacemaker after helping to secure the historic Armenia-Azerbaijan peace agreement.
Breitbart reported that Azerbaijani President Aliyev sang President Trump’s praises at the 4th Shusha Global Media Forum, a large international gathering that brought together hundreds of journalists, media executives, and policymakers from over across 50 countries.
During the forum, Aliyev was questioned by Breitbart about what distinguished President Trump’s approach from those of previous administrations in bringing Azerbaijan and Armenia to a historic U.S.-brokered peace deal last August.
Aliyev said that President Trump and his team, which included Steve Witkoff and Aryeh Lightstone, understood Azerbaijan’s concerns and worked to persuade Armenia that peace served both countries’ interests.
He said President Trump “created such a framework that peace became possible. What really impressed Aliyev was the establishment of the joint United States-Azerbaijani working group tasked with implementing its provisions. He said that this group reflected President Trump’s commitment to the agreement following years of strained relations under previous administrations.
He also told Breitbart, “For the first time in my experience, American officials kept their word so strictly.” This also helped to strengthen the relationship between the United States and Azerbaijan. He went on to add, “This is amazing. This is unbelievable. This is something which we could only dream about.”
According to Aliyev, this agreement is a reflection of President Trump’s broader approach to international diplomacy, and his personal qualities show that he sees peace as an opportunity. In a post shared to Truth Social, Aliyev personally thanked President Trump, writing, “Thank you for sharing my remarks from the Shusha Global Media Forum, where I described you as a “Man of Peace,” citing Breitbart.”
He added, “With less than a month remaining until the first anniversary of the historic Washington Summit, I would like to once again express my sincere appreciation for your indispensable role in advancing lasting peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia.”
He ends his post by writing, “Your leadership has made a historic contribution to bringing our region closer to peace, stability, and prosperity. You truly are a Man of Peace.”
