President Trump highlights ‘potential’ of the U.N., despite accusing them of funding illegal immigration

Following a speech to the United Nations General Assembly in New York, President Donald Trump participated on Tuesday in a bilateral meeting with UN Secretary-General António Guterres, where he balanced his heated criticisms of the globally focused organization with some affirmations of U.S. support.

“The United States was absolutely essential in the founding of the UN, and for decades we have relied on the United States as our major political and financial support,” Guterres said. “Thanks to the generosity of the American people – which we are grateful about.”

President Trump told Guterres that the U.S. was behind the United Nations “100 percent.”

“I may disagree with it sometimes, but I am so behind it because I think the potential for peace with this institution is so great,” the president said.

These comments follow President Trump’s heated criticism of the United Nations on several issues – issues that appear to suggest the UN is wholly at odds with respecting the sovereignty of the United States of America.

Trump first slammed the UN for its past incorrect predictions regarding climate change catastrophes that have yet to come to fruition. He described the climate change narrative as “the greatest con job ever perpetrated on the world” and warned that countries that ignorantly embrace “green energy” policies “will fail.”

President Trump also lobbed pointed criticisms at other countries for allowing immigration problems to get out of hand – contrasting global immigration issues against his administration’s eight-month operation to secure the southern border from Joe Biden’s catastrophe.

He unabashedly accused the United Nations of financially supporting the illegal immigration of individuals who were attempting to cross into the United States under the Biden regime.

“The United Nations is funding an assault on western countries and their borders,” Trump said.

“In 2024, the U.N. budgeted $372 million in cash assistance to support an estimated 624,000 migrants journeying into the United States,” he continued. “Think of that. The U.N. is supporting people that are illegally coming into the United States, and then we have to get them out! The UN also provided food, shelter, transportation, and debit cards to illegal aliens – can you believe that? – on the way to infiltrate our southern border. Millions of people came through that southern border just a year ago…and now, we have it stopped.”

The president called the UN’s role in facilitating this mass illegal immigration into the U.S. “totally unacceptable.”

He continued, “The UN is supposed to stop invasions, not create them and not finance them. In the United States, we reject the idea that mass numbers of people from foreign lands can be permitted to travel halfway around the world, trample our borders, violate our sovereignty, cause unmitigated crime, and deplete our social safety net.”
