President Trump says administration will fight to end ‘tremendous atrocities’ in Sudan

President Trump announced on Wednesday that his administration would work to end the war in Sudan. Since April 2023, Sudan has been engulfed in violence due to the ongoing power struggle between its military and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) paramilitary group. During a Saudi investment conference, President Trump said his administration began working on a plan immediately following a request from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman for U.S. assistance in ending the conflict.

Prince Mohammed bin Salman reportedly believed President Trump’s involvement would help move Sudan towards a resolution, noting the actions taken by the Trump administration last month to reach a ceasefire in Gaza. Trump shared a post on Truth Social on Wednesday, addressing the issue and stating his administration’s intent to take action.

“Tremendous atrocities are taking place in Sudan. It has become the most violent place on Earth and, likewise, the single biggest Humanitarian Crisis,” President Trump said. “Arab Leaders from all over the World, in particular the highly respected Crown Prince of Saudi Arabia, who has just left the United States, have asked me to use the power and influence of the Presidency to bring an immediate halt to what is taking place in Sudan.”

The conflict in Sudan has resulted in the deaths of over 150,000 people, with millions more displaced from their homes and thousands more reportedly being subjected to horrific violence. The United Nations has characterized the situation as the world’s largest humanitarian crisis. Trump expressed his hope that cooperation between the U.S. and other countries could potentially bring peace to Sudan.

“It is considered a Great Civilization and Culture, unfortunately gone bad, but one that can be fixed with the cooperation and coordination of Countries, including those in the Region of tremendous Wealth, who want this to happen,” Trump said. “We will work with Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Egypt, and other Middle Eastern partners to get these atrocities to end, while at the same time stabilizing Sudan. Thank you for your attention to this matter. GOD BLESS THE WORLD!”
