President Donald Trump is set to attend round two of the White House Correspondents’ Dinner, according to White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt.
“Tomorrow night, the president will attend the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner, round two, celebrating free speech and the First Amendment alongside all of you, members of the media,” Leavitt said during a Thursday briefing.
This second dinner comes after its original scheduled date on April 25th was disrupted by an exchange of gunfire in Washington, D.C., resulting in the arrest of alleged gunman Cole Tomas Allen, 31, of California.
As reported by RSBN, this scary situation led to the immediate evacuation of President Trump, First Lady Melania Trump, and other key members of the president’s Cabinet at the time.
“In a sign of Strength and Fortitude, it was just announced that The White House Correspondents’ Dinner, which violently ended rather abruptly on April 25th, will be rescheduled to July 24th,” President Trump announced in early June, referring to the rescheduling attempt.
Leavitt said on Thursday that the president “looks forward to finishing what he started before a despicable assassination attempt derailed the original event back in April, as we all know.”
She encouraged everyone to tune in for the dinner on Friday night, “for what promises to be a very entertaining and memorable evening.”
According to Fox News, Vice President J.D. Vance and First Lady Melania Trump are not expected to attend this version of the WHCA dinner, which will be held at the Waldorf Astoria in Washington, D.C.
Secretary of State Marco Rubio is not expected to attend either, the outlet reported.
However, it appears that much of the president’s Cabinet will otherwise be in attendance.
“Our first dinner is part of history, as will be the WHCA’s response,” said WHCA President Weijia Jiang in an earlier statement this year.
She continued, “We will not allow an act of violence to have the last word, especially during a year when we are reflecting on America 250 and everything we stand for.”
