President Donald Trump has recorded a Scripture reading for a weeklong Bible-reading event at the Museum of the Bible, organizers and the White House said, as the administration highlights faith-based outreach ahead of the nation’s 250th anniversary.

The president recorded his segment in the Oval Office earlier this week, reading from 2 Chronicles 7:14. The reading is scheduled to air Tuesday evening as part of the event, titled “America Reads the Bible.”

The program runs from Sunday through Saturday, with participants reading the Bible continuously from Genesis to Revelation in daily 12-hour blocks.

Organizers said the project has been in development for more than a year. Bunni Pounds, who is organizing the event, said it was intended as an opportunity for leaders to reflect publicly and encourage national renewal.

“Today, during our 250th year of American independence, the America Reads the Bible initiative invites all citizens to once again acknowledge our Nation’s extraordinary Biblical foundations and to give thanks for the countless ways in which God has been the sacred source of our unity and national strength,” the president shared in the statement.

“This one-week event, during which leaders in faith, Government, business, and entertainment will read every verse and chapter of the Bible, will inspire countless citizens to rediscover the Biblical truths that have animated our Republic for two and a half centuries and to pray that the Bible will continue to guide us—as individuals, as a people, and as a Nation—for the next 250 years and beyond,” he continued.

The White House said the initiative offers a chance to honor Scripture and reaffirm the country’s religious foundations. A separate presidential message tied the Bible to early American history, referencing figures such as John Winthrop and John Adams, as well as historical milestones like the Northwest Ordinance.

The verse President Trump selected has long been cited in evangelical circles. Scholars note it is often used in modern political rhetoric, though its original context refers to ancient Israel.

The event’s lineup includes several administration officials and political figures. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth and Transportation Secretary Sean Duffy are scheduled to read, along with Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and White House Chief of Staff Susie Wiles.

Organizers said invitations were extended to Democratic members of Congress, but none are participating. The nearly 500 readers are largely drawn from evangelical and Republican circles.
